directly Supporting refugees in Indonesia

Bibi Rahimi uses her fluent Indonesian, learnt from scratch when she arrived aged 23, to volunteer as an interpreter for other refugees.

It has come to our attention that, with very little warning, the UNHCR has removed funding for stipends of over 850 refugees in Indonesia. Another 350 of the ‘most vulnerable’ refugees will have their support removed in the New Year. This is a desperately difficult blow for individuals, some of whom have been stuck in an endless limbo for over ten years. Cisarua Learning has created a fund to support those refugees who have lost their stipends and we are asking for donors to help.

Please see this Fairfax Media Article for more (Link to Article here and on the Sydney Morning Herald site here).

Each refugee needs about $120 per month and we are asking any donors to make a recurring donation with the intention to support that refugee until they are resettled. All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of your donation will go directly to a refugee in need. This direct support is by far the most efficient way to support the refuge in need.

If requested, we will connect the refugee and the supporter together so that the support can extend beyond the basic financial necessities. We encourage groups and communities to join together to support a refugee.

Cisarua Learning is an Australian-registered charity and refugee-led organisation which has been working with refugees in Indonesia for over ten years. We are 99% run and managed by current or former refugees from Indonesia and over 50% of our board members are from the refugee community in Indonesia. We know what it means to lose this support while being stranded with no way to work or support oneself.

Donations can be made below, or directly to our bank account. For further information please contact muzafar@cisarualearning.com or jolyon@cisarualearning.com
