Psycho-social Support

When we first started meeting, the refugee community in Cisarua was scattered. But we realised that we had the capacity to overcome many of our challenges. We started with education, and the school quickly became the catalyst for a community to form.

The community itself became the transformative element. It provided friendship, opportunity, a sense of belonging, achievement, ownership, identity and pride. It showed us that we were not powerless. It’s through this community that we are able to find solutions to many of our problems and we have successfully navigated many challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

We believe that the mental health outcomes in our community are far stronger than most refugees. Currently we are partnering with UTS to develop a major study to assess and compare these different outcomes.
