Reconnecting with Cisarua

3 years ago we held an 11 hour, live online-telethon from Cisarua. It was a beautiful event where refugees and non-refugees were able to connect and share stories with each other. And we raised $80,000, which went 100% to the refugee-led initiatives in Indonesia.

Next Wednesday 22nd June we are going to do it again. The community in Cisarua have been working hard to prepare. There will be performances, interviews and discussions and we wish to share the message that ‘ten years is too long’.

Refugee-led initiatives provide essential psycho-social support and, according to Dr Lucy Fiske, are the best pre-resettlement program she has seen in 25 years of working with refugees, but we need your help to advocate for permanent resettlement places.

We hope that you will share the event on Wednesday, particularly with the new government in Australia. Together we can let them know what a terrific, hardworking community we are and show them how we could positively contribute to society.

So many things have happened in the last three years, including a pandemic and the fall of Afghanistan. We are so happy to be finally able to reconnect again. Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
